Case study
Enhancing remote team dynamics using Archipelago

A fully remote team, with varying levels of involvement among its members, was performing well under its leader. While satisfied with the team’s overall performance, the leader wondered whether there were any underlying issues that needed addressing or areas for improvement. The leader was also overwhelmed by the sheer volume of recommendations for managing remote teams, keeping them motivated, engaged, and productive.
The challenge
The leader wanted to better understand the practices that worked best for the team and identify any gaps in team dynamics or performance.

The approach: Using Archipelago
2
We used Archipelago to involve each team member in a collaborative process:

3
We discovered new practices and reaffirmed that the team values an open culture of discussion and the safe handling of concerns. These practices were already seen as strong points.

New Insights
Gaps Identified
It became clear that there was a lack of focus on retrospective practices, which emerged as a key area for development.

Interestingly, traditional remote team bonding activities were not highly valued. Instead, the team preferred joint problem-solving sessions.

Bonding vs. Problem Solving
Actionable Plan

The leader was able
to highlight practices
for improvement and
was provided with a list
of motivated team members willing to help implement them.

Idea Collection
Each team member was asked to share between 3 to 10 of the best team practices they were aware of. This generated 42 unique practices in total

Idea Rating and Selection
Members then rated the practices based on two criteria: their importance and how successfully the team was already implementing them. Finally, they identified the practices they were most eager to lead in implementing.

Idea Sorting
In the next stage, members categorised the practices, grouping together those that addressed common issues.

Data Visualisation
At the end of the process, Archipelago accumulates all the data and organises it into a dashboard. This visual representation allows the leader and the team to quickly and deeply understand each other’s perspectives and engage in more informed discussions about future improvements.
